Watch As U2 Honors Navalny With A Chorus During A Concert

The U2 dedicated a moment of their concert on Saturday at the Las Vegas Sphere to Alexei Navalny. Just before their cover of Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” Bono took a moment to speak about Putin’s political opponent, who died suddenly in a Russian prison this Friday.

Next week will mark two years since Putin invaded Ukraine. Next could be Poland, Lithuania, Eastern Germany – no one knows what that man is ready to do,” said the U2 frontman into the microphone. “For those peoples, the word ‘freedom’ is not just a word in a song. For those peoples, freedom is the most important of all words in the world, so important that Ukrainians are still fighting and dying for it. It was significant that Alexei Navalny chose to stand up for it.”

And furthermore: “It seems Putin has never uttered his name. So I thought tonight, the free people here who believe in freedom should say his name. Not just remember it, but pronounce it.” And so the audience and Bono began to chant the name Alexei Navalny.

Usher Explained Why Justin Bieber Didn’t Sing With Him At The Super Bowl

Justin Bieber was supposed to be a guest at the big club set up by Usher for his halftime performance at the Super Bowl. The news was revealed by the R&B singer himself during an episode of The Breakfast Club, clarifying a rumor that had started circulating in recent days.

We couldn’t work it out with Justin,” he recounted. “He’s like a brother to me, but I think right now he wants to tell a different story. And I understand that.” Furthermore, he added, “We had a brief conversation. We’ll definitely do something together in the future. I’m not upset about it: there’s a lot of pressure to handle for the Super Bowl.”

This sentiment was echoed by Lil Jon, who performed alongside Usher during the Las Vegas show: “There are a lot of rehearsals, a lot of responsibilities, and a ton of eyes on you. I’m not sure he was ready for all that.” He also added, “But they’re good friends, and I’m sure Justin was rooting for him.”

Marilyn Manson Ordered To Pay Evan Rachel Wood’s Legal Fees In Defamation Suit

In a recent ruling by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Teresa A. Beaudet, Marilyn Manson has been directed to cover Evan Rachel Wood’s legal expenses incurred during her defense against his defamation and emotional distress claims. The judgment, reported by Rolling Stone, entails Manson paying slightly less than the total amount listed by Wood for reimbursement—$388,000—owing to Manson’s lawyers’ arguments regarding the vagueness of some billed hours.

This legal saga traces back to March 2022 when Manson initiated a defamation lawsuit, alleging that Wood and her friend, Illma Gore, aimed to sabotage his career by portraying him as a rapist and abuser. Judge Beaudet dismissed several accusations from Manson’s lawsuit in May 2023, including claims that Wood orchestrated false statements against him and forged an FBI letter. However, unresolved claims, such as allegations of hacking, impersonation, and a “swatting” incident, are slated for trial on May 1.

Meanwhile, Manson faces mounting legal challenges, including a revived lawsuit filed by his former assistant Ashley Walters, accusing him of sexual assault, discrimination, battery, and harassment. Additionally, Manson settled a lawsuit last September with an anonymous accuser who alleged rape and threats between 2010 and 2013.

The ongoing legal battle has garnered attention due to Wood’s public allegations against Manson, initially made in 2021 and further detailed in the documentary “Phoenix Rising.” Wood accused Manson of abuse and grooming during their relationship from 2007 to 2010, prompting widespread repercussions for Manson, including being dropped by his record label and representation.

Manson vehemently denies all allegations, dismissing them as distortions of reality. As the legal proceedings continue, the case underscores broader conversations surrounding accountability and justice in the entertainment industry.

Ridley Scott In Talks To Direct Bee Gees Biopic

Ridley Scott is in line to direct a Bee Gees movie, in the latest of a wave of biopics about high-profile music industry acts. According to Deadline, Scott is in negotiations to direct a film about the popular hitmakers, in a project which has sole surviving Bee Gee Barry Gibb on board as executive producer, and Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King also involved. No details of the plot or cast have been revealed, but the film will have access to Bee Gees recordings through a deal that the Paramount studio made with the Gibb family in 2019.

If confirmed, Scott will produce alongside Stacey Snider, GK Film’ Graham King, and Scott Free Productions’ Michael Pruss. Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb is the executive producer of the new biopic, which will be distributed globally by Paramount Pictures. John Logan, who co-wrote Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and Alien Covenant, wrote the movie’s script.

Ridley Scott is the latest director connected to the Bee Gees biopic project. Kenneth Branagh was said, in 2021, to be the film’s director, and, at the time, the script was being handled by Ben Elton. The next year, John Carney was the new director attached to the film after Branagh reportedly had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts; John Logan was also brought on board to write the script. After Carney also had to depart for scheduling conflicts, Lorene Scafaria took the gig. Scott, of course, is now in negotiations to take over.
